What others are saying
When I started using Vectorworks some 16 years ago I was fortunate to come across the Field Template SoftSymbol range not long after. They are the absolute benchmark for high quality, detailed and most of all clearly drawn symbols. They are the first ones I reach for when starting a new design and as a side by side comparison with the stock supplied VW symbols…well there is no comparison.

Some [lighting designers] have always drawn their own symbols. If that’s the path you choose, that’s fine. For everyone else, there’s Steve Shelley and his SoftSymbols™. The range of products covered is remarkable. The price, given the amount of work that must be involved, remarkably low. Which is perhaps why they’re so widely used, particularly by lighting designers and their associates in America - a country that really does care about beautiful light plots. If you do too, check them out: this is a working classic, still in use daily...

What makes SoftSymbols so useful is that they are thoroughly researched, well made and above all, stick to some rigorous drafting standards that are maintained across the whole catalog.

Soft Symbols are my Vectorworks symbol library of choice, and have been since my tenure as Hubbard Street’s Lighting Director. Steve has created a product that is incredibly thorough, thoughtful, and well-organized. It looks great at any scale, is appropriate for every type of lighting gig, and could only have come from someone with his level of experience and attention to detail. It is an invaluable resource to me and will continue to be my go to library for the foreseeable future.

SoftSymbols are the symbol library of choice for the Lincoln Center Festival, and for all my other professional activities. They are cleanly built, graphically sophisticated, and the libraries are by far the most complete. There’s no other choice as far as I’m concerned.

I did the Lab Rep Plot revisions with SoftSymbols. LOVE IT! So does the crew and the union House Elec. We also think the twenty-or-so production teams coming into the Lab this spring (who’ll receive print copies of this drawing) will love it too. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have SoftSymbols™ - I trust my layouts again, since your symbols are the same size as the objects they represent (DUH!), and my drawings look more like my drawings again. Woo hoo!

PRG (Production Resources Group) Lighting 3.9 Pack

The complete overhaul for all PRG Lighting products, as of Spring 2018, adding 64 resources.

Ground Control: The three different fixtures, along with the control device and the Truss Box, completing the system to allow for operational followspots without having an operator next to it.

Movers: The Bad Boy CMY & Standard, along with the Best Boy 4K Spot, HP Spot, and Wash. The addition of the Icon Beam. Expansion of the VL5 series, to include full libraries for the VL5 Arc, VL5 Wash, VL5B Wash, and VL6C+ Spot fixtures.

ReNEW LED Fixtures: Full fixture libraries for the ReNEW Daylight and Tungsten LED engines; both libraries are duplicated to provide one set with slashes in the lenses, and the second set with numbers in the lenses.

Expanded 3D choices: All mover symbols have two choices of 3D component. While the 2D component is the same between the two, the default 3D component appears as an instrument hung from batten. The duplicate resource with the suffix ”FLR” displays a 3D component sitting on the FLOOR.

The PRG Object Library

PRG Lighting 3.8 Pack Also Includes:

SoftMap™: A pdf map matching each object library. The pdf can be printed out to provide a hard-copy reference for all the symbols, regardless of the printer.

SoftData™: The latest information, extracted directly from the symbols, and triple-checked using the SoftGauntlet® System. The data is translated into metric units as well—all symbols and resources can convert to metric scale, utilizing Sam Jones' free Autoplot for Spotlight macros.

Source & Color Mix Designation: All arc symbols use the SoftSymbols™ BlackBolt® designation to identify their bulb source. The CMY Bad Boy symbol contains a gradient circle to indicate the 3 graduated color mix wheels. The Standard Bad Boy contains a segmented donut indicating the 7 fixed colors in each of the 3 color wheels.

3D components hang or sit: An additional set of "FLR symbols" means 3D symbols can appear either in their default configuration (hanging from a batten,) or floor mounts, sitting on the stage.
